The eldest known familymembers Wienke were born in Choyna, district Wagrowiec, Province of Posen.
Referring to my grandma they originate from even more eastern areas.
The socalled "east flight" surely was the reason for their movement to Düsseldorf, northrhine westfalia, germany.
quotet from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ostflucht :
"The Ostflucht (east flight) was the movement of the German population of East Prussia, West Prussia, Silesia and Province of Posen beginning around 1850, to the more industrialized Rhine and Ruhr provinces. ... "
I found out at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ruhr_Area that many of the Poles went to the following cities in the Rhine and Ruhr provinces where today many WIENKE can be found in the telephone directory :
"In 1900, the main concentrations of Polish
minority were:
Gelsenkirchen, Landkreis (Provinz
Westfalen) 13.1 %
Bochum, Landkreis (Provinz Westfalen) 9.1 %
Dortmund, Landkreis (Provinz Westfalen) 7.3 %
Gelsenkirchen, Stadtkreis (Provinz Westfalen) 5.1 %"
